Andersen & Company LLP Merges with Burr Pilger Mayer LLP
Largest Non-National Accounting Firm in California Strengthens Roots in North Bay Market
SANTA ROSA, Calif., December 8, 2008 – Burr Pilger Mayer, LLP (BPM), the largest non-national accounting and consulting firm in California, and Andersen & Company LLP have announced plans to merge on January 1, 2009. This merger further builds on BPM’s business valuation, litigation support and succession planning capabilities, while immediately providing tremendous resources to support Andersen & Company’s consulting and compliance practice base. Historically speaking, this is likely the most significant merger of accounting firms ever to take place in Sonoma County.
Established 1981, Andersen & Company has two North Bay offices, $5.8 million in revenue and more than 35 employees in total. Combined with BPM, the new firm will boast almost 400 employees and over $65 million in revenue with offices in San Francisco, Palo Alto, Walnut Creek, San Jose, Novato and Santa Rosa. BPM has eight partners living in the North Bay.
“Merging with BPM opens up limitless opportunities for our clients and employees,” said James A. Andersen, managing partner of Andersen & Company LLP. “Our clients will now have greater access to an even broader range of compliance services and technical skills. It also strengthens our reach throughout the Bay Area. For our employees, it will allow us to make even deeper investments in their training and development as well as providing for greater growth and career opportunities.”
Stephen D. Mayer, BPM’s managing partner said, “We are thrilled to welcome the professionals of Andersen & Company to the BPM team. When our firm looked toward expansion into the North Bay, we knew it would be critical to align ourselves with a top tier firm with long and established relationships in the market. Andersen & Company was hands down the firm we wanted. Along with our existing expertise in tax, assurance and consulting, the addition of their firm puts BPM at the forefront of business valuation and litigation support services throughout Northern California.”
BPM has earned such national honors as being ranked one of the Top 100 firms by Accounting Today and received the "Best of the Best" designation for Top 25 firms demonstrating outstanding achievement in practice management from Inside Public Accounting. BPM was recognized by the San Francisco Business Times as being the 5th largest accounting firm in the Bay Area (only the Big 4 national firms are larger). Additionally, BPM is consistently acknowledged for its philanthropic achievements as a major contributor of time and resources to charities and educational institutions throughout the greater Bay Area.
According to Mayer, “We are in growth mode in the North Bay. For talented professionals seeking a real career opportunity, we are aggressively hiring at all levels.”
